Teaching Tomorrow’s Family Doctors: Keeping patients close at heart in the digital era
General Practice/Family Medicine (GP/FM) is vital to a cost-effective, patient-centered healthcare system but faces challenges such as workforce shortages, rising life expectancy, and the need for more chronic care and growing demands in diagnostics and treatment.
Digital technologies and AI offer potential solutions but also raise ethical concerns, including privacy, accountability, health equity, sustainability, and data management. Their impact on doctor-patient relationships and medical education remains a key question. Telemedicine and virtual reality, as examples of innovations from the last decade, are already shaping clinical practice and education— but will avatar doctors and teachers be the future?
This fourth conference brings together GP/FM educators across EURACT countries to explore digital advancements in GP/FM practice and medical education while equipping future physicians to address their complexities.
Keywords: family practice, medical education, artificial intelligence, telemedicine
