Abstract

“Laser in Health Science” has been designated the main theme of the 17th Congress of the World Federation for Laser Dentistry. Various scientific programs including many lectures and symposia by some of the world’s most renowned specialists in the field, general oral and poster presentations, workshops, and much more, are planned. These programs will raise the level of scientific research and broaden knowledge in laser dentistry, providing profound satisfaction for all participants.

Numbers are impressive: 99 speakers, 35 short oral presentations, 58 poster presentations, 15 workshops, and more than 350 participants from 23 countries. We would like to especially thank over 20 companies that have financially supported and put their trust into this event featuring research in health and odontology laser.

The team had a very clear objective, which was to bring speakers who could deliver the latest research in the field of light. It is astounding how far science has come in the last few years, regarding the use of laser in treating several pathologies, such as oral mucositis, photobiomodulation of stem cells to regenerate dental tissues, treatment of infections resistant to antibiotics with photonic therapies and PDT, the use of vacuum therapy to control pain, improve sleep quality, esthetic facial harmonization, remineralization of white spots, dental bleaching with violet leds, the use of Er:YAG laser to remove dental caries preserving healthy tissues and removal (debonding) of porcelain facets and onlays. This arsenal of innovations has led to the choice of the central topic of the present Congress: Laser in Health Science.

Two round-table discussions are part of the scientific grid. The first one will approach the topic of Periodontits & Periimplantits and Laser Treatment. The second, with the presence of the current and 3 Past Presidents of WALT, will be on Photobiomodulation. Both round-tables will have the presence of the most renowned researchers in the field of their respective topics.

Inaugural lectures is another innovation brought by this event, featuring 2 internationally acknowledged researchers, Prof. Enwemeka Chukuka (USA) and Prof. Vanderlei S. Bagnato (Brazil and USA).
