Abstract
20th Scientific and Training Conference of the Polish Society of Paediatric Nephrology was held in Wroclaw between May 18 and May 20, 2023. The Conference was organized by the Department of Paediatric Nephrology of Wroclaw Medical University.
The main subject of the conference were urinary tract infections (UTIs). In addition, the latest achievements were presented, addressing other issues in pediatric nephrology and related fields.
The conference started with 2 workshops: “Current diagnostic and treatment guidelines for selected nephrological rare diseases” and “New focus on urinary tract infection: From standards to dilemmas”. These tailored courses offered a unique opportunity for professional development. The Young Nephrologists’ Forum, „My patient with atypical urinary tract infection: Diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties and complications”, was also held. Distinguished specialists from Poland gave lectures on different aspects of urinary tract infections and selected other nephrological diseases.
The program included 7 sessions on, among other things, urinary tract infections in different groups of patients (newborns, young adults, children with dysfunctional voiding, with neurogenic bladder and on renal replacement therapy), controversies in UTI diagnostic imaging and therapeutic management, atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome, Fabry disease and X-linked hypophosphatemic rickets. In addition, the results of most recent studies on glomerulopathies, acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, renal replacement therapy, and hypertension in children were discussed.
More than 50 papers, both original and case reports, were submitted to the conference. Their abstracts are presented in this special issue of Advances of Clinical and Experimental Medicine.
